Sculpture
My work is done using an acrylic fabrication process. After first making furniture with the material, I immediately started experimenting with the left over pieces, turning them into sculptures. I use black acrylic as well as clear in my work. Each component is individually cut from a thick sheet of Plexiglas using a bandsaw. Sketching abstract designs such as dolphins, sails, and island clusters directly into the acrylic, I give each piece a unique character.
These sculptures catch surrounding light, even in low light conditions, drawing it to the edges to create the amplified effect of a bright silver glow. Between dancing contours, positive and negative spaces merge to create the overall composition. Simple, but full of expression, the acrylics are perceived as illusory, dynamic sculptures of light.
