Sculpture

I started learning the art of soft stone carving when I was seven years old. This technique of carving various animals and figures out of one single stone dates back to the 15th century, and was originated in India during the Mogul Empire. It is passed on from one generation to the next. One of my techniques involves carved animal figures with another identical carving in its hollow belly. First the outer shell is carved, then through the holes, the inner figure is carved. The stone piece is never cut into two parts, so the final figure remains a single carving, without any joint in the stone.
